| back | | New Oxford Academy website as unique as the school itself | |
| Oxford Academy of Westbrook, Conn., is a unique boarding school that offers one teacher/one student education for young men, ages 14-20. Why shouldn't its website be unique as well?
Last year, Oxford turned to Magic Hour Communications to develop a new website that matches its unique mission with a brand new design at www.oxfordacademy.net. The reviews so far have been great and the school community is very pleased with the site, said Phil Cocchiola, Oxford's head of school.
"Immediately after it was launched I started hearing from parents who were raving about it," said Cocchiola. "The new site now matches the excellence of Oxford Academy with a fresh design that is more true to who we are and our mission."
Oxford chose Magic Hour for several reasons:
• Magic Hour's award-winning designers deliver a highly customized approach for each client's site and deeply understand each school's needs and potential.
• The InfoServe content management system's user-friendly interface will make it easy to keep the site fresh and up-to-date on a regular basis.
• Competitive and flexible pricing allows the school to add features and capabilities over time as its needs expand.
• Magic Hour has expertise with more than 100 academic clients and helps share that through its annual user conference (this year scheduled for April 3-5 near Philadelphia) during which the school can learn tips, techniques, and trends from other academic institutions from all over the country.
• Consolidation of all forms on the new website; previously, forms were managed on two external sites or were still paper-based, which made it more difficult for users to find and submit them.
• They can upgrade their site in the future to have real-time data integration with their school database.
Cocchiola added, "Magic Hour continues to be responsive to our needs and we look forward to continuing to grow our website together with their superb guidance and support."
Kimberly Brainerd, who was Oxford's consultant for building the site, gave Magic Hour kudos for its client recommendations.
"Magic Hour recommendations blew away everything we heard about every other company. [The clients] reported being treated well for years," she said. "One of them had a good experience for the entire 10 years they've been a Magic Hour client. That's hard to keep up a record like that. A lot of companies will give you good attention for one year and that's it."
She added, "The Magic Hour folks also had a real deep understanding of the birth of a new site, that it's just the very beginning of a site that will grow over time. I also like that the content management system is robust and easy to use for a small school, but that allows it a lot of room to grow later. I really appreciated that mix." |
