2/28/11 -- When you want to know, you want to know now.
So in this age of anytime, anywhere access to the Internet, parents and alumni aren't any different. They want to be able to whip out their smart phones and within a couple of clicks look up a school phone number, check the events calendar, get directions and schedule details for their child's athletic competition, or find out if there's a snow day. And, they don't want to zoom in or out of the Droid or Blackberry screen to read the information, let alone see a broken Flash icon on their iPhone or iPad.
That's where Magic Hour Communication's new mobile website strategy can make the difference.
The academic website design company has launched a new approach that makes creating a mobile website for a school using the InfoServeCS content management system easy as one-two-three.
To get started, Magic Hour creates a series of templates that pulls information from all the critical pages of your website, including dynamic information such as announcements, events, athletic schedules and locations, news, or any other data that the existing website features. Step two is launching and promoting the mobile-browser friendly templates. Step three? Readers type the URL into the browser window and, voila, a mobile-friendly site appears.
Because the mobile templates work through a browser and aren't a platform-dependent App, the approach works on any mobile device, including iPhones, Blackberries, iPads, Droids, and more.
"Apps have been the big thing in the last few years, but to create many different apps for different mobile platforms may not a good use of time or money for many schools," says Eli Avershal, president of Magic Hour Communications. "Instead, we provide the mobile templates that look as clean and legible as an app but that work on any mobile browser. They also pull data right from the school website content management system (InfoServe), so there is no need to develop content for the mobile site and the school website. InfoServe can deliver content through different templates on multiple platforms at the same time, which is a big plus."
